One of the most common things I hear people say when they see me reading and ask how I make the time is, “Jeez, I wish I had more time to read. It’s just so hard to find books that I like.”
It’s upsetting to me because I think that half of the battle is carving out the time for yourself to enjoy 15 minutes of reading sometime throughout your day. But then I also understand the second half: with so many selections out there and celebrity Instagrams screaming at you to buy this one or that one, it’s hard to find a book that would draw you in and keep you committed to those 15-20 minutes a day.
Well, in the world of subscription boxes, finding books for you is easier than ever. But even then, it begs the question: Which subscription box should I choose?
While I certainly love my Book of the Month subscription, there have been months where I skip because none of the five monthly selections sound like something I would be interested in. Which is fine since your credits roll over and you can use them to select other books should two or three strike your fancy in a particular month. But what about one more tailored to my own tastes? What about one where I’m not looking at the selections and skipping the month?
Might I suggest Page 1 Books?
A few months ago, I discovered Page 1 Books on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the idea. It’s a subscription box tailored to your preferences in terms of reading and it comes with cute little bookish goodies, too! I mean, what’s not to love about that? Thankfully, the sweet souls over at Page 1 offered to let me sample the subscription to see if it was really worth its weight.
My friends, it totally is.
Right away, you know that those behind this box care about catering to their subscribers. When you sign up for the box, they ask you a series of questions. How many months would you like to subscribe for? Tell us about books and authors you love. Books and authors you don’t enjoy. What else would you like us to know? And they even ask for your Goodreads handle so that they can see what you’ve liked and not liked!
Talk about a commitment to getting your tastes correct!
When I received my first box, it contained a postcard welcoming you to your box and hoping you enjoy it. Sometimes it tells you what awaits you, but others it just says happy reading. On the back, and this is my favorite part, they let you know that if you don’t like your book, you can send it back. That’s right! You can send your book back and they’ll send you something more suitable to your tastes free of charge! I mean, are you kidding me?! That’s the best! Think about the boxes you’ve received from other subscriptions and thought, “Ugh, this is just not for me. I wish I could send it back.” With this one, you can! That’s one of my favorite aspects!
Along with your wrapped book, the box includes various bookish goodies that are sure to please. I’ve received a cute New Yorker jigsaw puzzle, coffee, postcards and other cute trinkets. Each box also contains a bookmark with a different book quote on it each month to give you something a little more personalized to keep between the pages. (You know, because a receipt or a magazine subscription postcard isn’t always available.)
More specifically, this company is run by humans who care deeply about their customers. During the holidays I ordered a Jane Austen mug from their website and when I received the wrong one in the mail (holiday rushes can be crazy!), I emailed my issue and received a response within the hour with an apology (not necessary) and a remedy to the issue. And it wasn’t robotic; it was genuine and authentic and that’s something that I can totally get behind.
So, all in all, I could not recommend Page 1 Books more. It’s a company run by amazing people who are here to give YOU, the subscriber, the best experience you could have and tailor your box to you specifically.
If you’re looking for a box that has you in mind and will give you what you’re looking for, Page 1 Books is the box for you. If you need more of an incentive, check them out on Instagram today!
